When you clean homes for a living, you see a side of life most people don’t.
Not the version people present.
Not the perfectly staged version on Instagram.
The real version—mid-week, mid-life, in the middle of everything.
And honestly, it’s changed the way I see people.
1. No One “Has It All Together”
I’ve been in big, beautiful homes that look perfect from the outside…
…and inside, they’re just as chaotic as everyone else’s.
Laundry piles. Half-finished projects. Dishes in the sink.
It doesn’t matter how successful someone is—life still gets messy.
2. The Busiest People Aren’t Lazy—They’re Maxed Out
A lot of people feel guilty about their homes.
But what I see isn’t laziness.
It’s people juggling:
- Work
- Kids
- Relationships
- Just trying to stay afloat
Cleaning is usually the first thing to fall—not because they don’t care, but because they’re out of time.
3. Everyone Has That “One Room”
Every house has it.
The room where things just… collect.
An office that turned into storage.
A guest room no one can actually stay in.
A basement that keeps getting avoided.
It’s never about the space—it’s about decision fatigue.
4. The Little Things Matter More Than People Think
It’s not the big messes that change how a home feels.
It’s the small stuff:
- A made bed
- Clear counters
- Light coming through clean windows
Those things shift your mood way more than people expect.
5. People Care More Than They Admit
Almost everyone says some version of:
“Sorry it’s a mess”
And they mean it.
Not because their home is actually that bad—but because it matters to them how it feels and how it’s seen.
6. A Clean Home Isn’t About Perfection
The homes that feel the best aren’t the ones that are spotless.
They’re the ones that feel:
- Lived in
- Maintained
- Reset, even just a little
There’s a big difference between “perfect” and “peaceful.”
7. You Can Learn a Lot About a Life From a Home
Not in a judgmental way—just in a human way.
You can see:
- What people prioritize
- What they’re going through
- What season of life they’re in
And it makes you realize how similar we all actually are.
The Takeaway
If there’s one thing this job has taught me, it’s this:
Most people are doing better than they think…
and struggling in more of the same ways than they realize.
Your home doesn’t have to be perfect.
It just has to support your life.
